Comics aren't just for the funny pages.
Rather, they can be an accessible way to share illness experiences, and communicate serious and complex medical topics to patients. This revelation has led to the emergence of graphic medicine, the creation and study of comics for patient and/or medical education.
Palliative care is often misunderstood.
The goal of this project is to produce a didactic comic for use in education about palliative care, a topic often associated with 'nearing the end'. The piece will aim to inform patients with serious illnesses about palliative care and the benefits of starting early, and aid them in their decision-making. I will also be conducting an evaluation of this communication tool with its target audience.
